Can the shutters be used outdoors?
Yes, we do, and you may choose between three possibilities.
Our new Timber Wood Shutters are available in an exterior application; we use an unique UV varnish on the wood as well as a coconut-based lacquer to nourish the wood and protect it from the elements.
Our Hurricane Aluminium Shutters are perfect for use outside and protect windows and glass doors from inclement weather. They are constructed entirely of aluminium, so they will not corrode and are simple to maintain.
ShutterGuard® Protection Shutters take the look of aluminium shutters and add further security with our unique Gear-lock mechanism and the louvre lock pin that locks the closed louvre panels, an additional security feature that makes these shutters almost impregnable.
Do indoor shutters help with security?
Our Thermowood® shutters are made of a long-lasting, carefully developed wood alternative – extruded PVC – that has been rigorously tested in humid, hot, and dry environments to assure durability. It is moisture-resistant, fire-resistant, and easy to clean, and it will not fracture, split, or warp. Furthermore, while they are good at managing light, heat, and noise, they are not security shutters and hence are not burglar-proof. If you need inside shutters for protection, the ShutterGuard® Aluminium Security Shutters are the finest choice.
How secure are your aluminium shutters?
Our ShutterGuard® Security Shutters combine security and style: they are constructed of aluminum and have a Gear-locking system with a locking pin to fasten the louvres, making them practically impregnable and burglar-proof.
Hurricane Aluminium Shutters are intended to protect doors and windows from inclement weather. They are safer than Thermowood®, but they are not security shutters.
Do you make wood shutters?
Yes! Our Timber Wood Shutters are constructed entirely of wood and may be used both indoors and outside. You may color match your Timber Wood Shutters to complement the decor of your home. All we need is your preferred color finish (in a Plascon or Dulux paint or a sample of any wood currently in your home).
Our Thermowood® Shutters are made of a sturdy, specifically developed wood alternative – extruded PVC – that looks like wood but is more durable and won’t crack, split, or warp, is impervious to moisture, fire-resistant, easy to clean, and provides great light, noise, and temperature control.
Wood versus aluminium shutters, what should I choose?
It actually depends on your needs, and we’re happy to provide experienced advise.
Thermowood®, a specifically developed wood replacement, will never peel, crack, warp, burn, or discolor; it is purely for functional purposes and is not a security solution.
Timber Wood Shutters are great for individuals looking for a natural wood product that can be used both indoors and outdoors. This is also not a security shutter.
Hurricane Aluminium Shutters protect windows and doors from the elements and can be used outside. They will not corrode because they are made entirely of aluminum.
ShutterGuard® Aluminium Protection Shutters are the answer if you want beautiful shutters that also provide security. Made of aluminum, they include a proprietary 3-way locking mechanism that makes them nearly impregnable and burglar-proof.
Are your shutters available in different sizes and colours?
All our shutters are made specifically for each client to ensure a perfect fit. Thermowood® Shutters are available in standard colours : Satin White, Magnolia, Lime Wash, Alu White, Holland, Smoke. We do not offer custom made colours for Thermowood®.
ShutterGuard® Aluminium Security Shutters and Hurricane Shutters come standard in white and dark bronze. However, if you wish to have these colour-coded to match or complement your existing wall colour or décor, this can be arranged with a matte finish (not gloss). This does come at a surcharge.
Can I fit a shutter to an inside window if I have wall-to-wall carpeting?
Certainly! We will work on a solution with you. This could include us attaching the bottom track onto your carpet or cutting the carpet to accommodate the shutter.
Would CT Shutters be able to advise which blinds, shutters or security doors are best in my home and office and bring samples to me?
Absolutely! We will come out armed with our product books to evaluate your requirements, show you our solutions, measure, advise and provide a quote. All of this is without any obligation.
What if my blinds don’t fit properly or I am unhappy with the result?
CT Shutters has a service department that handles these queries. Please email info@ctshutters.co.za to report the problem or concern, and we will arrange to meet with you to assess the situation and find a solution.
Is it possible to order products in different colours than those readily available?
We offer a wide selection of colours for all our window blinds but these can be customised for you. Our ShutterGuard® Aluminium Security Shutters and Hurricane Shutters are also offered in a matt finish, in a colour of your choice. However, our Thermowood® Shutters and Durador® are only available in the standard colours.
How do I get a consultant from CT Shutters to come to my house or office to measure and quote?
Send us an enquiry and we’ll contact you to make an appointment.
Who installs your products or can we do it ourselves?
We have a network of agents and installation specialists who have been given rigorous training to ensure that your shutter or blind installation is seamless. Whether it is blinds or shutters, they will adhere to our high standards of workmanship. We pride ourselves on our service – from measurement through to manufacturing, installation and after sales service. In order for your warranty to be effective, you do need to have a professional installer carry out the installation
What is the lead-time for order placements?
It depends on the product you have ordered. We custom-make all the products in our 8000m2 purpose-built factory and our production for the delivery of window blinds is one week from order placed and deposit received, whereas for shutters the turnaround time is two weeks from order placed and deposit received.
I have heard that the cords on blinds can break easily – is this true and can they be easily replaced?
Part of the after-sales service includes replacing cords if the break falls under the warranty terms and conditions. However, our cords are of a very high quality and would need to be replaced by a certified installer
Simply call or email CT Shutters and we send a representative to assess the problem. If the product is still under warranty we will repair it.
What are your payment terms (is a deposit required)?
Upon approval of the order, a 50% deposit is required. Once received, the work begins. The balance can be paid upon installation.
Where are all your products made?
CT Shutters has a purpose-built 8000m2 factory in Montague Gardens, Cape Town and all our shutters, security systems and blinds are manufactured locally on-site under the strictest quality controls.
